No ‘Doubts’ About The New Single From Only Yours

For over a year, Only Yours have been working on their latest album, Overrun, which is to be released in 2019. The first single from the album, “Doubts”, was released August 24. “The cool thing about this song,” said lead singer, Lowell Sostomi, “is when I wrote it I thought for sure it would be an album track: I never envisioned it as a single.”

The band worked with producer, Joe Chiccarelli (The Shins, Morrissey, The Strokes), and “it was through the process of working with Joe and his experience and perspective, that the song came to life and became a standout track.”

According to Sostomi, there were many changes from conception of the album to the final product: “one likes to think that the song that is the most energetic or the one with the most obvious pop sensibilities is definitely the one that you put forward, but I think we are trying to showcase the more unique aspects of our band and have those as treats for those who decide to listen to the whole record.”

“Doubts” is a driving and punchy synth-laden track with laid-back lead vocals that seem to float on top of the song. “All the songs I write,” said Sostomi, “I start with music and a lot of it is autobiographical: every song is a true story for the most part.”

Originally from Fort Erie, Sostomi moved to Toronto to attend Ryerson University, but with an ulterior motive: “I chose that university because I knew i wanted to come to Toronto to write songs and play music.” He first got started with Great Bloomers, a roots-rock project, before Only Yours debuted in 2016. Now Niagara will be the first stop on the tour to support the new single.

According to Sostomi, “I grew up playing music in St. Catharines at venues like Red Square, I feel like I played there every single weekend so there’s a lot of history for me in St. Catharines. I really look forward to coming down to the Niagara Region.”

Only Yours will be performing at Warehouse in St. Catharines on September 28 with Allo. Doors at 7PM, $10 advance.
