The Just Ripe: Phantom White

I am over the moon to talk about Ferox Wines, a fresh new face in Niagara that mixing up some truly beautiful and well made wines. A company putting so much effort into the fruit and really trying to push the idea quality above quantity, which we all know comes at a cost. You wouldn’t be surprised how stoked I was to hear of the launch of their new Phantom white that sits at the super affordable and crushable cost of $19.95 and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Released as June was winding down and with just enough time to stock up before this crazy July heat we have been experiencing.

This wine is uncomplicated and refreshing AF. Just a touch of spritz, the perfect balance of sweetness and acidity. Serve cold while you are hiding out underneath the shade. Watch as the condensation beads on the glass similar to the sweat beading on the back of your neck. Smells like candied lime peel, Niagara peach season, with hints of jasmine and a small touch of petrol. It tastes like green apples, pineapples that are just ever so under ripe and stainless steel. It has a perfect combination of fruit and a tang that will make your gums ooze saliva. To say this is the perfect wine to enjoy on these +40 degree days is an understatement. It’s like a little shooting star that has been soaking in the juice of sweet Meyer lemons and heading straight for an explosion on your palate.

Having such a mysterious name as Phantom, it has giving Fabian Reis the winemaker and owner of Ferox Wines room to play with grape varietals from vintage to vintage. This first release is composed of solely Riesling grapes because that is what the harvest brought, all the while looking forward to see what sort of blend this will become. Since Ferox is operating as a virtual project though Reif Estate Winery to try this and buy this you need to head over to Reif which is located on the parkway in Niagara on the Lake.
